Discount Car Insurance

By Polly Sherman

Auto insurance is just one of those things that we have to pay for, being a necessity in most states. But with how the economy is going these days, can we really afford to spend on auto insurance? I'd say yes, (there really isn't much of a choice if you want to drive a car.) What we should be keeping an eye on, however, is if we are paying too much on our coverage, and if there are still ways to make our auto insurance costs cheaper. You've probably heard about discounts on an auto insurance policy. Discounts play a significant role in how our final rates and premiums come out. It's time for you, the hard-working and paying consumer, to learn to save some much needed dollars on your auto insurance policy.

There is actually a surprising number of discount auto insurance options you can get, as long as you're eligible for them. Below is a list of some of the most common forms of discount auto insurance:

1.Defensive Drivers Discounts - For taking state accredited Defensive Driving Courses.

2.Defensive Driver Discounts - awarded upon completion of state-accredited Defensive Driving Programs.

3.Discounts for installing after-market security and accident safety mechanisms on the car.

4.Discounts for being a good driver without any accidents or traffic violations for the past three years or so.

5.Discounts for not having filed any auto insurance claim for the past three years or longer.

6.Discounts for having multiple vehicles/ multiple named drivers under one policy.

7.Low-Annual Mileage Discounts - For averaging less than 15,000 miles a year, may also apply if you only drive for short periods of time.

8.Discounts or incentives for keeping your car parked inside a secure garage, especially during night-time.

There are many more options available, and some may only be offered by certain carriers. We recommend you begin your search on the Web. Many companies now have websites that give detailed discount auto insurance and eligibility information. To find the carriers with the lowest rate, we suggest using auto insurance portals as well. Discounts are a much needed break, especially for people trying to make ends meet, so take time in finding yours as well.
